Bruins knock out Hi-Liners

Fargo South's offense was firing on all cylinders Saturday night as they put four players in double figures as they racked up their season high in points while cruising past Valley City 78-51. South jumped all over Valley City early, hitting for 22 first quarter points, many coming in transition as the Bruins looked to push the ball ahead on fast break opportunities all night. South got a huge spark off the bench as freshman Christa Salzwedel scored a career high 20 points, including two quarter ending buzzer beaters, one at the end of the first, and the other at the end of the third. The Bruins also helped themselves from the line, going 12 of 15 in the first half. The Bruins defense also played well, as they used a variety of defensive sets to keep the Hi-Liners off balance and limited them to just 4 first half baskets, all from senior Jessie Keller. The Bruins led 41-18 at halftime. The Bruins played solid the entire second half as well, and the Hi-Liners would never mount any type of a comeback attempt. South had solid post play again as Katie Luecke scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds while Jessica Trautwein chipped in with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Mandy Rice was the other double figure scorer with 13 and Alicia Calkins helped out on the Bruins domination of the rebounds by pulling in a team high 13 boards. The win improves Fargo South to 11-8 in the EDC and the Bruins will play their last regular season game next Tuesday at home against Fargo Shanley.
