Bruins defeat West Fargo
Fargo South got some scoring from the perimeter Thursday night which helped take the burden off the inside game. That was an important factor in the Bruins win as West Fargo played a packed in zone defense for a majority of the game in an attempt to hold Souths leading scoring, center Jessica Trautwein, in check. Sophomore Christa Salzwedel responded with a team high 13 points and ended the Bruins two game losing streak with a 54-41 EDC win. South scored early and outscored the Packers in each of the first three quarters. The Bruins forced 24 Packer turnovers with their full court defense and led 31-17 at halftime. Despite a sluggish 3rd quarter for both teams South extended their lead to 16 points heading into the fourth quarter. South found the gaps in the Packer zone as Alicia Calkins continued her solid play on the baseline and the guards found the posts inside. When the Packers collapsed on the posts, the Bruins were able to kick the ball out and knock down perimeter shots. That 1-2 inside outside punch pushed the Bruins to their 10th win of the season. The win puts South at 11-6 in the EDC and 10-6 overall. Next action for South is Tuesday night when they host top ranked Fargo North.
