Bruins advance to semi's, defeat Williston
After spotting the Williston Coyotes a 3-0 lead on a Kayla Rogers three pointer, the Fargo South Bruins rolled off 19 straight points to finishe the quarter, and cruised from there in a 53-31 win in the opening round of the 2004 State Tournament. South spread the wealth in the opening quarter as 7 different players scored for the Bruins, led by 5 quick points off the bench by Jenna Lee as she hit on a three pointer and a long two pointer to open things up against Williston's sticky zone defense. The Bruins full court press also harassed the Coyotes into major turnover problems. South forced 14 first quarter turnovers by Williston, which led to some nice transition baskets by the Bruins. Williston didn't quit though, and fought back into the game by putting some stops together on their defensive end, while cleaning up their offensive game as well. The Coyotes clawed their way back into the game and trailed only 27-15 late in the first half when Kellee Black dropped in a basket from the perimeter. South answered just seconds later though when Amy Hannaher nailed a three pointer right before halftime to keep the Coyotes at shouting distance at 30-15 at the break. South streched things out again in the third quarter, as the Bruins continued to get very balanced scoring. As the quarter wound down, 8 different Bruins were in the scoring column, and the Bruins had a 43-23 lead. South's defense just proved to be too much for Williston, limiting the Coyotes to just 11 field goals in the game on 29% shooting. Although the Bruins only put one girl in double figures, Joslynn Tharaldson scored 10 points to lead South, the balance took its toll on the Coyotes, and South cruised to the 21 point win and moved into the semi-finals for the second straight year.
