BRUINS MOVE TO 6-0

Fargo South stayed perfect on the season with a 68-44 win over Bismarck St. Mary's on Tuesday night in the Bruin gym. South again had balanced scoring, as 4 different players had double figures, and 8 players scored. Joslynn Tharaldson led the charge for South dropping in 17 points, followed closely behind by Jenna Lee with 16 points. Early on in the game the Saints used a tough 1-3-1 zone defense to keep the Bruins off balance offensively. The Bruins stuggled to find their comfort zone on offense and the Saints were able to stay with South for the first quarter. Jenna Lee hit a three pointer and got fouled on another three point attempt to lead the Bruins with 8 of their 12 first quarter points. South played steady defense as well, and led 12-9 after one quarter. It was the middle two quarters where the Bruins extended things though. Their full court pressure led to an up tempo style as the Bruins racked up 23 points in the second quarter. McKenzie Mehlisch scored on a nice pull up jumper in the lane, Jenna Lee hit a pair of midrange baseline shots, and the post tandem of Joslynn Tharaldson and Julie Hageman teamed up for 12 inside points. The solid second quarter was topped off by a 30 foot buzzer beating three pointer by Cammi Greenheck that gave the Bruins momentum heading into halftime with a solid 35-19 lead. It was more of the same for South in the third, as their full court pressure continued to be effective. Lindsay Sauvageau had a great third quarter, scoring all 10 of her points, which included a nice driving layup through traffic. The pressure defense and transition game of South led to another big quarter, this time a 25 point effort which stretched the lead to a commanding 60-34 lead heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, both teams stuggled a bit again from the field with the outcome of the game not in question. The Bruins began subbing midway through the quarter and cruised to the final 24 point win. The win moves South to 6-0 on the year. Next action for the Bruins will be Wednesday afternoon when they host top ranked Mandan to close out the Holiday Tourney.
