INSIDE-OUTSIDE TANDEM BOOSTS BRUINS OVER HUSKIES

Fargo South used the inside-outside combination of Joslynn Tharaldson and Cammi Greenheck to get a nice road win, defeating the EDC's second place team, Wahpeton, by a convincing 63-44 score. Cammi Greenheck totaled a career high 25 points to pace the Bruins, while Tharaldson also broke the twenty point barrier, dumping in 21 points and grabbing a team high 7 rebounds. Wahpeton had no answer for the twin scoring punch of South, as the duo scored early and often and did so for all four quarters of the game. In the first quarter, the Bruins defense led the way, holding the Huskies to just 6 points, all from in the paint. Meanwhile, the pressure defense out front by the guard combo of Greenheck, McKenzie Mehlisch, and Lindsay Sauvageau, forced a number of turnovers. On the offensive side of things for South, Cammi Greenheck delivered her best offensive game of the season. She was looking to score when she had the opportunity to do so, and her great shooting ability led to a whopping 71% field goal percentage over the course of the game, and the shots were coming from all angles. Greenheck and Tharaldson each scored 6 points in the quarter to help South to a 14-6 lead. In the second, the focus of South's defense turned to stopping the inside play of the Huskies. The only points in the paint for Wahpeton in the second quarter were a pair of offensive rebound putbacks by 6'2 center Kristen Kleven. South continued to be efficient on offense in this quarter also. Greenheck scored 8 more points in the quarter, including a nice steal and layup. Tharaldson continued her scoring pace as well, scoring 7 in the quarter which included her first career three-pointer which she drained as a trailer in the Bruins' secondary break. McKenzie Mehlisch also had a nice steal up top which she converted for a layup as well in the quarter. At halftime, South had built a 31-19 lead. In the third quarter, the Huskies tried to mount a comeback attempt. Wahpteton knocked down a pair of three-pointers to close the gap and Lindsay Sannes hit a long two pointer as the Huskies played even with the Bruins in the third. For South, Jenna Lee got into the scoring column as she was the recipient of a beautiful wrap around pass in the lane by Lindsay Sauvageau. After a closely played third quarter, South took a 41-30 lead into the final period. Again the Huskies tried to close the gap and took the lead to just single digits, but the Bruins put together a great 6 minute stretch to close out the game and won going away. McKenzie Mehlisch had another steal and layup for a basket and got to the line twice for a solid 8 points. Cammi Greenheck continued to give fits to the Huskies, weaving through the Wapeton press with a Harlem Globetrotter like dribbling exhibition. Jenna Lee and Cammi Greenheck eliminated any doubt of a Bruin win when in close succession they both knocked down three-pointers to really extend the lead. Greenheck also lived up to her growing reputation as a "buzzer-beater" when she nailed a long lean-in two pointer to beat the shot clock buzzer midway through the final quarter. Joslynn Tharaldson also scored on a tough inside basket as she spun in a difficult angled shot. In the end, the Bruins were just too much for the Huskies, and South cruised to the 63-44 win. The win moves South to 7-1 in the EDC and keeps them alone in first place, and they go to 9-2 overall. Next action is Tuesday night when they travel accross town to take on rival Fargo North, a team playing very solid basketball right now.
