Bruins fall late to Century

Fargo South had a tough fourth quarter for the second straight day, and fell to the #2 Bismarck Century Patriots 50-41 on Friday afternoon in the Patriot gym. Century scored the first 6 points of the game, but Jenna Lee got hot after that to carry South to a 12-7 first quarter lead. Lee hit South's first 10 points of the game, including a pair of three pointers, and Julie Hageman scored inside to give South the five point lead. Century regained their offense in the second though, as Hatti Ternes hit her first of 4 three pointers on the night as the Patriots rallied to take a 20-19 lead into the halftime lockerroom. The Bruin offense struggled to get good looks in the period. Kirsten Pattison contined her solid play off the bench as she dropped in 4 points inside, and Jenna Lee hit on a short baseline shot in a scramble play for the Bruins only points of the quarter. Both teams exchanged shots in the third quarter. Alicia Stensgard hit a 15 footer from straight on, and also had a nice drive to the basket from the elbow, and Jenna Lee hit her third three pointer of the game. South scrapped their way to a slim 31-30 lead heading into the final frame. The Pats drew first blood in the fourth, as two quick inside baskets gave them a 34-31 lead, but Lindsay Sauvageau tied the game up as she drove hard to the basket and scored plus got fouled for a three point play to tie the game at 34-34. That would be the last time the Bruins would be in that situation though. A pair of three pointers by Ternes, stretched the Pat lead to 40-34, and the Bruins would not mount another run. The Patriots executed down the stretch and went 6-8 from the line to keep the Bruins at arms length and held on for the 50-41 win. South was led by Jenna Lee's 15 points. The loss drops South to 4-3 on the season.
