Bench comes up huge in win

Fargo South got 32 points, 15 rebounds, 8 steals, and 7 assists off the bench on Friday night, propelling the Bruins to their third straight win over visiting Jamestown in the Bruin gym. The bulk of those stats came from junior Amy Stroup, who led the Bruins with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and freshman Siri Burck, who chipped in with 14 points on 7 of 8 shooting, and also led the team with 7 assists and 4 steals. Early on in the game though, it was the Jays who looked solid. Jamestown, led by All-Conference player Morgan Dale who scored a game high 20 points on the night, jumped out to leads of 8-2 and 18-10 before South was able to mount a run at them. Trailing by that 18-10 score, Amy Stroup took over. Stroup scored on an offensive rebound and an inside move, then later tied the game at 20-20 scoring on a nice pass from Katie Thorson. The Bruins extended their lead and forced a Blue Jay timeout when Katie Thorson and Mandy Hage hit back to back three pointers, both on drive and kick-outs from Siri Burck. The Bruins maintained that lead and led 34-28 at halftime. In the second half, the Bruins offense and defense continued to work together to put togehter a nice run. Leading 34-30 shortly into the second half, the Bruins did not allow a Jamestown point until there were just over 11 minutes remaining in the game and went on a 15-0 run to push out to their biggest lead of the game at 49-30 and seemed to be in control of the game. The Blue Jays wouldn't go away though and battled back to pull within 49-39 on a three pointer by Jenny Schuchard. Thats when Siri Burck stepped up and regained the momentum for South. Playing the point spot she was able to get deep into the lane and scored 8 straight points for South, including one fast break basket on a beautiful assist from Caitlyn Haring, and the lead extended back to 57-39, and the Jays were not able to mount a second comeback attempt. South placed 4 girls in double figures, led by Stroup's 16 and Burck's 14. Alicia Stensgard and Caitlyn Haring each added 10 points as well. The win moves South to 3-2 on the season. Next action for the Bruins is next Thursday when they host Fargo North in a boy-girl double-header.
