Bruins drop tourney opener
Fargo South found itself spinning their wheels the entire game and the result was an ugly 54-39 loss to Jamestown in the opening round of the State Tournament, sending the Bruins to the consolation bracket. The Bluejays were the aggressor all game long, controlling the boards and dictating the pace of play and were able to consistently get and hit open shots. For the Bruins, they struggled to just 28% shooting, including a 19% second half effort. It was a disappointing game for the Bruins, who were coming off what were probably their two best games of the season and were hoping to continue that play for one more weekend. But this night was Jamestown's. Despite not getting much going in the opening half, Kirsten Pattison's three point play right before halftime tied the score at 24-24 and gave the Bruins a chance to regroup. Things went sour from that point though. 2 missed layups and a missed 4 footer to start the second half was a sign of things to come. The Bruins just couldn't get anything going and got stuck on 30 points for the key 4 minute stretch where the Jays opened up a 43-30 lead, which they never relinqueshed. Sophomore Morgan Dale was able to get loose to score 22 points and grab 12 rebounds to lead the Jays into semi-finals. For South, Kristen Anstadt led with 13 points and 5 rebounds. South will take on Bismarck High at noon on Friday in the consolation bracket.
