Bruins outpace Huskies

Fargo South kicked off the 2008 post-season with a convincing 75-39 win over the Wahpeton Huskies on Thursday afternoon in the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The Bruins slowly and steadily pulled away from the Huskies throughout the game. Siri Burck was able to get some easy transition hoops, which included a steal, basket, and foul shot to start the game, and Kristen Anstadt helped out from the post spot with 11 first half points. The only negative for the Bruins was the fact that they couldn't quite find the range from the three point line in the opening half to take full advantage of the packed in zone of the Huskies. South shot just 1 of 12 from downtown in the opening half, but still managed to take a 37-20 halftime lead, sparked in the last couple of seconds by a steal and layup by Meghan Roehrich. South continued to pull away after halftime, as Siri Burck again got ahead of the pack for a number of breakaway layups, as did Amy Stroup. Alley Fisher was steady all night as well off the bench, scrapping on defense and hitting a pair of three pointers and also converted a three point play. The Bruins were able to rest their starters for much of the second half, something that should help South as the three day tournament continues. Kristen Anstadt led South with 15 points, joined in double figures by Siri Burck with 14, and Alley Fisher with 11. South now takes on Devils Lake on Friday night with the winner getting a berth in next week's state tournament.
