Fast start pushes Bruins to big 75-46 win

Second ranked Fargo South exploded out of the gates using hot shooting, nice fast breaks, and a stifling press, building a quick 18-2 lead just minutes into the game, and cruised to a convincing 75-46 win over third ranked Bismarck Century on Friday night in the Bruin gym. Third year starter junior Siri Burck at the top of South's press caused all kinds of problems for the Patriots early, tipping or stealing nearly everything that came her way which led to 12 first half points and included 7 steals for Burck. When South wasn't scoring in transition, the Bruins were also hot in the half court set against the zone of Century. Sophomore Alley Fisher, in her first career start, knocked down 4 three pointers in the opening half and also made a conventional three point play for 15 first half points. Senior Caitlyn Haring had her usual stellar floor game as well, feeding the other Bruins with some beautiful passes for easy baskets. Caitlyn finished the night with a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 12 assists. After a great first half on both offense and defense, the Bruins carried a 51-28 lead into the halftime lockerroom. In the second half, the Bruins couldn't quite keep up that scoring pace, but their defense continued to be solid, limiting the Patriots to only 5 second half field goals, and the game was not in doubt. South put 4 players in double figures, led by Fisher's 20 points. Katie Lee, who also played a solid all around game added 17, while Meghan Roehrich dropped in 15, including 6-6 from the freethrow line, and Siri Burck chipped in with 14. South moves to 1-0 on the season and will play 4th ranked Bismarck on Saturday afternoon.
