Bruins win EDC title with win over Knights

Fargo South wrapped up the regular season EDC title for the second year in a row by posting a 78-39 win over visiting Grand Forks Central on Tuesday night in the Bruins gym. With that title comes the #1 seed in the East Region Tournament next week and will take on the winner of the play-in game between Wahpeton and Valley City. South jumped on top early as Siri Burck got the scoring started with a three pointer from the right wing, while Meghan Roehrich had 7 quick points, scoring on a nice driving basket, a pair of freethrows, and a three-pointer. Meghan continued her hot shooting from the previous game with 3 three-pointers in the first half on her way to 15 first half points. Siri was nearly unstoppable scoring from all angles as she got to the rim a number of times on post ups, dribble penetration, and offensive putbacks to score 16 first half points. For Central, Caitlin Farroh kept the game close through the early part of the half as she scored 12 points and had 7 rebounds. The Knights could not match the Bruins firepower on offense though, and South took a 38-21 lead into halftime. In the second half, Alley Fisher hit for 5 quick points as she scored on a three point play, then followed up with a pair of freethrows just a few seconds later. Katie Lee also got things going in the second half scoring on some nice passing by Caitlyn Haring and Siri Burck. Abbi Weatherspoon also chipped in with 6 second half points. The Bruins did a great job of opening up their halftime lead early in the second half, and the Knights were never able to mount any type of ralley to get back in the game, and the Bruins pulled away for the big win. Siri Burck led South with 20 points, while Meghan Roehrich dropped in 19. The win moves South to 18-0 on the season and 15-0 in the EDC. The Bruins finish up the regular season on Friday night at Shanley.
