Bruins back on track

Fargo South played it's best game of the season so far, and rolled over Wahpeton 79-25 on Saturday in the Huskies gym. With a slow start in each of their last 3 games, the Bruins were determined from the opening tip to not let that happen again. Jasmine Moffett scored the first hoop of the game and then the Bruins defensive pressure took over. Fargo South forced 28 Wahpeton turnovers in the opening half, many of which led to nice transition hoops. South scored the first 18 points of the game to put a stranglehold on the game just 7 minutes in. All of the Bruin players seemed to be on the same page as they continually saw one step ahead and made the correct plays. One prime example was midway through the opening half when Amanda Schultz and Brittney Bolstad were pressuring the ball on the right wing, Emily Livingood and Raquel Wellentin were taking the passes into the posts away, and Lauryn Wilson read the return pass back perfectly and made a steal and scored on a breakaway layup. The Bruins defense was so stingy that the Huskies failed to make a field goal in the opening half, and South had a commanding 43-5 halftime lead. In the second half, South also made some great plays and continued their all around solid effort. Erica Everson was able to score in the post, and the Bruins also had some very nice fast break passes for easy baskets. Everson led 4 Bruins in double figures scoring with 14 points. The win moves South to 11-1 in the EDC and 12-3 overall. Next action for South is Tuesday when they travel to Devils Lake.
