Bruins light up three point line

Fargo South, coming off an 8 day layoff, shook off some early rust and busted out in a big way, dropping in a school record 13 three pointers in handing cross town rival Fargo North an 83-44 loss to move to 17-0 on the season and clinch at worst a tie for the regular season EDC title for the 2nd year in a row. The Bruins had a tough time scoring in the game's first 4 minutes, but when Meghan Roehrich hit South's first basket of the game, a three pointer from the left wing, the lid came off the hoop in a big way. Roehrich went on to drop in a school record 10 three pointers for a school record 34 points. Meghan had 5 three pointers by halftime, and she was joined in that column by Alley Fisher, who had 3 three's herself, as the Bruins exploited North's zone defense with 8 three's at the half. By halftime, the Bruins downtown shooting had given them a commanding 40-18 lead. The onslaught continued in the second half, as Roehrich stayed hot, hitting 4 more three's in the opening 5 minutes of the half and had 31 points with more than 12 minutes remaining in the game. Siri Burck got things going in the second half too, scoring 8 second half points while dishing out 11 assists, the second game in a row where she hit double figures in assists. Katie Lee and Caitlyn Haring also both played their normal steady games, and the Bruins got nice minutes off the bench by Abbi Weatherspoon and Katie Dockter. The combined 13 three pointers by Fisher and Roehrich bested the 11 made by the Bruins back in 1997. Meghan's records broke the three point record held jointly by Alley Fisher and Jenna Lee with 7, and the 34 points broke Joslynn Tharaldson's 32 points set in 2004. Next action for South is Tuesday when they host 2nd place Grand Forks Central. A win would give South the outright EDC title and the top seed in the East Region tournament.
