Bruins complete a perfect regular season

Fargo South won a hard fought game in the Shanley gym on Friday night to complete a perfect 19-0 regular season for the first time in school history. With guard Alley Fisher feeling under the weather, the other Bruins needed to step up their game to compensate, and they did. South got 13 points off their bench, including 10 from Katie Dockter to help boost South to a 66-43 victory. The game was tightly contested early, and although South only trailed one time in the game at 3-2, the game was tight for a good part of the opening half. South led just 10-9 with a little over 12 minutes to play, before going a 13-2 run to push the lead to 23-11. In that run the Bruins had some beautiful fast break baskets as Siri Burck and Caitlyn Haring both had some gorgeous passes that led to easy hoops. The Bruins were very balanced at halftime, as Katie Lee had 8 points, and 3 other Bruins had 7 each. South took a 34-18 halftime lead. The Deacons kept things close in the second half though, and a Sophie Kenney three pointer cut the lead to single digits at 36-27 with just under 15 minutes to play. The game was still tight with 11 minutes to play as South held just a 45-34 lead, but the Bruins then picked up their energy level and went on another big run, this time a 14-4 run over the next 6 minutes that put the game out of reach at 59-38. Katie Lee did a nice job crashing the boards in that run, and ended up with a team high 18 points and 7 rebounds for the game. South put 4 players in double figures again, and finished up the game with the 66-43 win. The Bruins are the EDC Champs for the 2nd year in a row and take the top seed and #1 ranking into next week's East Region Tournament on Thursday.
