Fast start keys Bruin win

Fargo South put finals week behind them in a big way on Friday night, taking out the stress of final exams in a great effort against cross river rival Moorhead in the Spuds gym, and came away with a convincing 74-36 win. The Bruins defense was operating on full tilt mode early on, as the Bruins jumped out to a 19-2 lead just four and a half minutes into the game, and never looked back. The Bruins used their full court pressure to make a steal on 5 of 6 Spud possessions in that early run, and the result was some fantastic passes and baskets in fast break mode for the Bruins, including a great three point play by Alley Fisher and a beautiful give and go layup between Siri Burck and Meghan Roehrich. Siri, who was on the top of South's zone pressure, harassed the ball handlers for Moorhead, while the rest of the Bruins players jumped into passing lanes and were seemingly everywhere at once as there were numerous tips, turnovers, and fumbles forced onto the Spuds. It was also a total team effort as well. South got their normal big point production from their guard trio, as Meghan Roehrich led everyone with 20 points, and Siri Burck added 17 and Alley Fisher 15. Adding to the mix on this night though, was a career high 17 points from sophomore post player Jasmine Moffett, and while Raquel Wellentin didn't get in the scoring column, she played great defense, grabbed 5 rebounds, and had 4 steals along with numerous tipped passes. Erica Everson also came in off the bench to give the Bruins a big spark as well, giving great energy while scoring a basket, grabbing a pair of rebounds, and getting 3 steals. The Bruins continued to run the floor well the remainder of the first half, and took a huge 41-13 lead into the halftime lockerroom. With the outcome of the game not in doubt in the second half, the Bruins were able to get some valuable minutes off the bench as the half wore on, something South has been needing since the injury to Katie Felch a week ago. Fargo South has now defeated the Spuds for the third straight time, after having never beaten them prior to last season. The win moves South to 8-0 on the season. Next action for the Bruins is Saturday night as they travel to Grand Forks to take on the Central Knights.
