Roehrich breaks her own scoring record in win
Fargo South built a big in the opening half, then rode the second half scoring of junior guard Meghan Roehrich to post an 83-65 win over Shanley on Tuesday night in the Deacon gym. Meghan broke her own school scoring record set last year by pouring in 26 second half points to post a school record 35 point night. Shanley, who was leading the EDC coming in with a 2-0 conference record, took a quick 4-0 lead, but that was quickly erased by a Meghan Roehrich three pointer and a nice jumper by Alley Fisher. After trading baskets for a stretch, the Bruins went on a 19-2 run to strech out to a 28-11 lead with 8 minutes left before halftime. Jasmine Moffett gave the Bruins a huge spark off the bench, as she scored 8 points in that run, which included a number of offensive rebounds and putbacks. Raquel Wellentin also had a great offensive rebound basket where she rebounded and put the ball back in all in one motion. The Deacons were not going to roll over though, as they went on a big run of their own to get back into the game. Shanley raised their intensity level and went on a 16-3 run to pull within 31-27 with just over a minute to play, but South regained some control as Meghan Roehrich scored the last 4 points of the half to give the Bruins a 37-29 halftime lead. The second half belonged to Roerich though. Meghan dropped in a three pointer seconds into the half, and never quit scoring the rest of the way. Meghan was able to score both outside the three point line, had a number of drives to the basket, ending in either a layup or pull up jumper, and also scored on a couple of post ups. Alley Fisher and Siri Burck also hit from downtown in the half as well, and Siri's three pointer gave the Bruins their biggest lead of the night at 74-43 with just under 7 minutes to play in the game. South played out the end of the game, and cruised to the double figure win. Teaming up with Meghan's scoring outburst was the effort on the boards by both Jasmine Moffett and Raquel Wellentin, who hauled in 9 and 8 boards respectively, while Siri dished out 7 assists. The Bruins placed 3 players in double figures, as Meghan's 35 led the way, and was joined by Alley Fisher with 16 and Jasmine Moffett with 15. South improves to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the EDC. South now will enjoy the Christmas vacation, and return to action on January 5th, when they travel to Wahpeton in another EDC game.
