2011-12 Bruins Coaches
All time South coaching records
Here is the coaching staff for the 2011-12 year:
Head Coach Jason Smedshammer
Jason is in his first year as head coach of the Bruins after spending 12 years as the jv coach. In the 12 years that Jason has been a part of the Bruin bench, South has finished as State runner-up 4 different times, EDC champions 5 times, and East Region Champions 7 times. Prior to coming to South, Jason spent seven years coaching in the boys and girls programs at Aberdeen Central, a Class "AA" school in South Dakota. He was the JV girls' coach and the sophomore boys' coach. Jason was named Region 1 Boys Assistant "Coach of the Year" in 1998. He also coached for one year at Edmunds Central High School in South Dakota and one year at Wolford High School in North Dakota. Jason graduated from Jamestown High School in 1985 where he played basketball for the Blue Jays - they finished 2nd to Fargo North in the State tournament that year. He is currently the math department chair at South High, graduated from NDSU in 1990 with a BS degree in Math Education and has a Masters degree in Education from St. Kate's in Minneapolis.
Assistant Coach Cammi Greenheck
Cammi returns to the Bruin family in the role of JV coach in her first season on the Fargo South sideline. Cammi was a 3 year starter for the Bruins from 2004 to 2006, played in 2 state title games during her time as point guard, and was named All-EDC for 2 years. She played college basketball at both Concordia College and Jamestown College. Cammi becomes the third former Bruin to become an assistant coach for South High joining former sophomore coaches Tonah (Paulson) Safranski and Jessica (Trautwein) Myxter. She graduated from Jamestown College with an elementary education degree in 2011. Cammi also coached middle school volleyball at Carl Ben.
Assistant Coach Alvina Deyle
Alvina starts her third year of heading up the sophomore team. Her coaching career started in Enderlin, ND where she coached every level from 3rd grade to JV girls basketball for four years. She moved to Grand Forks and coached 7th grade basketball there for two years. She has taught/coached at Fargo South since 1986 where she has mainly been at the 9th grade level until the desire to watch her daughters play at three different levels made her think that 25 years of coaching was enough. Her successes were many with the highlight of her career when her teams won back-to-back-to-back championships from 1990-1992. Alvina’s husband is Tim and you see him running the shot clock when he is not teaching 5th grade at Roosevelt Elementary. Their five children are Janna, Rachel, and triplets Karissa, Daniel, all of whom attend NDSU.
Assistant Coach Sarah Peterson
Sarah is in her second year as a coach in the Bruin program. She is a graduate of Moorhead High where she participated in basketball and track. She is graduated from Concordia College in 2011, where she played basketball for 2 years, majoring in Physical Education and Health. She previously has experience in coaching junior high level track with a specialty in pole-vaulting, elementary and college level basketball, and also coached middle school volleyball at Carl Ben.
