Bruins fall to top team in league West Fargo
Fargo South still had a stretch without points in the first half, but the overall game played by the Bruins was much improved over earlier in the week. South played pretty steady most of the night, but just couldn't recover from a 6 minute scoring drought in the first half and dropped another home game on Friday night, falling 64-44 to 2nd ranked West Fargo. The Bruins fell behind 6-0 early, but kept their heads in the game to keep it close. A three pointer by Anna Deiderich opened the scoring for South and another three by Madeline Strandemo plus a hoop by Bria Taber made it a 14-10 Packer lead with 13 minutes to go in the half. But the Bruins then couldn't find the bottom of the net, managing only a Strandemo hoop over the next 11 minutes, and West Fargo went on a 18-2 run to strech things out to 32-12. The Bruins trailed at half by a 39-17 score. But despite the lopsided score, the Bruins were not playing that bad, they just couldn't get a basket to go down. South shot only 26% in the opening half, compared to the 46% hot shooting of the Packers. In the second half, the Bruins tried to claw back into the game. Strandemo hit a three pointer to get the half started for South, and a three by Alyssa May and another hoop by Strandemo cut the Packer lead to just 41-27 just 4 minutes into the second half. The Bruins had a number of chances to cut into the lead even more, as they did a solid job on the defensive end, but 3 different possessions led to turnovers in their bid to cut the lead. The teams played even for the next 6 minutes, and Madeline Strandemo's third three pointer of the game cut the lead to just 47-34 with 8 minutes to play. But the turnover bug hit the Bruins again at that time, with 4 more turnovers before their next basket, and the chance to make the game tight was gone. The Bruins played hard the whole game though, and had decent stretches which is an encouraging sign for the second half of the season. South was led by the 17 points of Strandemo, the only Bruin in double figures. With the loss, the Bruins drop to 1-8 on the year. South hosts Moorhead next Tuesday night.
