Injury/illness bug hits the Bruins

Fargo South battled both a tough Devils Lake team and the injury/illness bug and the result was a not pretty 76-25 loss up in Devils Lake. Starting without 1 starter and losing another early on with an injury, South still played steady defense over the opening few minutes, but could not get any shots to drop, despite getting a number of clean looks and the Firebirds pulled out to a 14-4 lead midway through the opening half. But turnovers again became an issue as a number of Bruin turnovers led to transition baskets by Devils Lake, a number of which ended up in three-point play opportunities. While the Bruins half court defense was ok, their transition defense allowed the Firebirds to really stretch things out over the last 10 minutes of the half, pulling away to a 42-11 halftime lead. The Bruins still played hard in the second half, but more turnovers led to more fast break baskets by the Firebirds, who cruised to the big win. No Bruin hit double figures in scoring as South was led by the 7 points of Sami Hoselton. Next action for the Bruins is Saturday night when they host the Sheyenne Mustangs in the front end of a girl/boy doubleheader.
