Bruins fall to Packers

Fargo South played well for the second straight game, but again fell short, this time to the hottest team in the conference, dropping a 55-43 decision to the West Fargo Packers on Tuesday night in the Bruins gym. For much of the game, the Bruins and Packers battled back and forth. West Fargo got out to a 5-0 lead to start the game, but the teams played even after that until halftime. Kierstenn Aguilar and Emmerie Beyer each hit a three pointer to give South a 6-5 lead, but then Akealy Moton got going for the Packers, scoring inside multiple times giving West Fargo a 17-10 lead midway through the half. South stayed in it though as Aguilar scored on a driving basket, and Naiya Karl hit a baseline shot off a nice pass from Sami Hoselton. Adie Wagner then hit a three pointer, and South trailed just 19-17 with 5 and a half minutes to go before half. Despite the Packers rebuilding their lead to 29-21, Adie Wagner nailed another three pointer, this time on a nice kick out pass from Aguilar right at the halftime buzzer to make it a 29-24 game at half. In the second half, the Packers again scored inside as Moton grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds, but South answered with a three from Beyer to keep the Bruins close. Beyer had 2 more threes shortly after that off of some great kick out passes, and a Kierstenn Aguilar three with just over 12 minutes left cut the lead to 41-36. That would be as close as South would get however. The Bruins had another scoring drought coming down the stretch, scoring only 2 points in the games final 8 minutes and the Packers came away with the victory. Kierstenn Aguilar led the Bruins with 15 points, while Anna Brakke continued her very strong rebounding effort, getting her career high for the second game in a row, this time grabbing 16 rebounds on the night. Next action for South is Friday when they host Davies High.
