Bruins play well in loss at Devils Lake

Fargo South forced 27 Firebird turnovers, dished out 18 assists, put 4 players in double figure scoring while racking up 70 points, but in the end could not keep Devils Lake off the offensive glass, particularly in the first half, and consequently fell by a 92-70 score on Saturday afternoon in Devils Lake. The teams played back and forth for the opening 9 minutes with South trailing 21-17. The Firebirds then had 3 steals in a row with baskets to push it out to a 27-17 score. However the Bruins hung tough, cutting the lead back down to 32-26 with 5 minutes to go before halftime. Unfortunately for South though, a few different players picked up their third fouls in those 5 minutes delegating them to the bench until the second half. The Firebirds took advantage and built the lead up to 12 and then hit a buzzer beater to establish a 51-37 halftime lead. Of those 51 points, 22 of them came on second chance points on 14 offensive rebounds. In the second half the Bruins held tough, trailing 57-44 shortly into the half, but timely three pointers by Devils Lake allowed them to stretch the game out to 20 plus. South fought hard the whole way though but could not quite cut into the lead enough to make a run at the Firebirds. Adie Wagner led all scorers with 26 points and also had 6 steals and 5 assists. Adie was joined in double figures by Paige Schroeder with 15, Alice Carlson with 12, and Sami Hoselton with 11. The loss drops South to 4-6 on the year. The Bruins travel to Fargo North on Tuesday night.
