Bruins hold off hard charging Knights

Fargo South built a 12 point halftime lead, extended that lead to 20 at 57-37 with just over 6 minutes to play, and then held on as the Central Knights scored the last 18 points of the game and had a chance to tie or win late, and the Bruins posted a 57-55 win on Friday night in the Bruins gym. The Bruin defense was rock solid over the opening 15 minutes, taking a 26-10 lead with 3 minutes to go before halftime and looked like they were in control, but Central rallied to finish the half on an 8-4 run and the Bruins led 30-18 at halftime. The Knights continued that run by scoring the first 6 points of the second half to make it a 30-24 Bruin lead with 16 minutes to go. However South then got things rolling. Adie Wagner scored in a number of fast break opportunities, pushing the lead out to 43-26 with 13 minutes to play and kept that lead over the next few minutes, leading 52-34 with just under 8 minutes to go. Wagner's three pointer with just over 6 minutes to play gave the Bruins a 57-37 lead, and South again appeared to be in control of the game. However the Knights then went on a tear and South struggled to grab any momentum back, not scoring the rest of the game. Things still appeared to be ok for the Bruins as they held a 10 point lead with 2 minutes to go. In the end though, the Bruins had just enough to hang on for the imporant win. South improves to 6-6 overall. Wagner's 24 points led South, joined in double figures by Sami Hoselton with 11. Next action for the Bruins is Tuesday when they host the Shanley Deacons.
