Bruins get beat in overtime by Demons

Coming off an exciting buzzer beating win over #2 Mandan, the Fargo South Bruins responded to a sluggish first half and ended up with a great battle with #3 ranked Bismarck, who were also coming off a big win, a victory over #1 ranked West Fargo. The Bruins found themselves in foul trouble for the second straight night and played the first half with three key players seeing very limited time on the floor. The Demons couldn't take advantage however, and missed 13 free throws in the first half to keep the Bruins close at halftime, leading by a 27-22 score. A renewed spirit in the second half was contageous for the Bruins and everyone responded with a big play at sometime in the second half. The teams battled back and forth for nearly the entire second half with neither team leading by more than 3 points. Both teams had chances to win or lose the game in regulation, but Bismarck scored a put back basket with 3 seconds left to send the game into overtime. South had two players foul out late in the game and the Demons took advantage and controlled most of the overtime period, building up a 5 point lead on two different occasions. However the Bruins still would not give up. Colee Silovich hit a 3 pointer from the corner with 18 seconds left, cutting the lead to 2. The Bruins fouled on the ensuing play and Bismarck made one of two freethrows for a three point lead. The Bruins had a good look at a three pointer but the shot just missed and the Bruins were forced to foul again. Bismarck made one of two again for a four point lead. Silovich made another three pointer, this one from half court, to finalize the scoring, a 60-59 victory for Bismarck. The loss drops South to 1-1 on the year. The Bruins are back in action Saturday morning in West Fargo, when they take on Bismarck St. Mary's.
