Bruins bounce back with big win over Central
Fargo South showed up ready to play on Friday afternoon and put in their best performance in a couple of weeks together to stay alive in the hunt for a state tournament berth in a 67-41 trouncing of Grand Forks Central. The Bruins, after struggling through the first quarter, ran out on an 11-2 run in the second quarter that pushed South to a 33-22 halftime lead. The Bruins weren't about to let Central back in the game either, and after Grand Forks scored the first basket of the second half, the Bruins put together 14 straight points to push the lead to 23 points with just over two minutes left in the third period and the Bruins never looked back. Tamar Elias scored 15 points in the second and third periods to help lead the attack. Fargo South was able to cruise to a 26 point win. The Bruins had 3 players in double figures, led by Elias' 21, followed by Renae Whitford's 12 and got a big spark off the bench from sophomore Alicia Calkins who scored 12 points. The Bruins continue play in the tournament Saturday morning when they play Fargo Shanley in a game where the winner advances to the state tournament and the loser is done for the year.
