Bruins cross Red River

The question so far this year has not been if the flurry will come, but when. Fargo South extended their winning streak to nine games Tuesday night in a game where the flurry came down hard on the host Rough Riders in the final period of the game. After battling back and forth for the first three quarters, the Bruins exploded in the fourth, scoring 18 of the first 20 points scored in the quarter and breaking the game wide open. Early on, however, it looked to be a war throughout as the Rough Riders jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and led the entire first quarter. Senior Colee Silovich kept the Bruins in the game early as she hit 3 three pointers and a long two pointer in the first half at a time when South was struggling to score. Red River countered with two three pointers by Larter. The game was tied at halftime 24-24. The third quarter was also evenly played, but the Bruins were facing foul difficulty. The Bruins had to make several defensive switches that tried to keep three different girls from picking up their fourth foul in the third period. The effort was successful though, and South was able to put together a patented run to start the game, scoring on eight consecutive possessions to go from a 38-37 third quarter lead to a 55-39 bulge with just over two minutes remaining in the game. Renae Whitford nailed back to back three pointers and Tamar Elias hit for numerous baseline jumpers to spark that run. Lindsay Hewitt dished out eight assists in the game also. With the win the top ranked Bruins improve to 10-1 on the year. Next action for Fargo South is Saturday night when they host the Grafton Spoilers in a two point EDC contest at the Bruin gym.
