Bruins blow past Hi-Liners 70-40

The Fargo South Bruins broke out of a 3 game funk and rolled up 70 points on EDC opponent Valley City Saturday afternoon. The Bruins started the game out playing very aggressive defensively, but couldn't capitalize on many easy chances at baskets in the first quarter and led just 10-9, despite dominating the pace of the game. Those shots began to fall in the second period though, helped by 12 points a piece by Tamar Elias and Kristi Kilander, and 2 three pointers by Renae Whitford. The Bruins pushed the one point quarter lead to a 20 point halftime cushion, outscoring the Hi-Liners 26-7 in the second period. Colee Silovich and Kim Holman helped pace the Bruins in the third quarter with Silovich scoring 6 points, grabbing 4 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists in the quarter. The Bruins led by 30 points at the end of the third quarter and cruised to their 16th conference victory of the season. The Bruins placed 3 players in double figures, Elias led with 18, followed by Kilander with 16 and Whitford with 15. Kilander also recorded 8 blocked shots. The win, coupled with a Jamestown loss to Grand Forks Central, has the Bruins back in first place in the EDC with one game remaining. A win on Tuesday at Fargo Shanley would give the Bruins the 1999 EDC title and the top seed in the regional tournament.
