Bruins end year with loss to Packers

Fargo South looked like they had spent a lot of energy the day before as they came out sluggish in the 5th place game at the State Class A Tournament. West Fargo jumped all over the Bruins early, scoring the first 12 points of the game, and was never really seriously in danger of losing that lead the rest of the game. Midway through the second period, the Packers led 25-8. The Bruins were getting shots, though, but just couldn't get many to fall. The last few minutes before half, though, the Bruins put together a mini run that let them creep back into the game, and trailed 31-20 at halftime. The Bruins would play much better the second half, but the big lead they had spotted the Packers was just too big to overcome. The Bruins kept chipping away at that lead though, thanks in large part to Renae Whitford, who missed only one shot the second half in scoring 17 second half points. The Bruins never quit in the game, but great free throw shooting by the Packers kept the game out of reach down the stretch. West Fargo held on for a 64-56 victory. South ends their season with an 18-8 record, and was one of just 3 teams this year to defeat the eventual state champion Mandan Braves.
